New Mayor of Bor Municipality vows to curb skyrocketing food prices in Bor

June 10, 2016 (SSB) — The newly appointed Mayor of Bor Municipality of the South Sudan Jonglei state has vowed to pursue and reduce the prices of commodities of goods and services at Marol Market of Bor town. Prof. Hakim Ajieth made the remarks while taking oath of office Friday at Jonglei state council of Ministers.
“I will make sure that the prices of the commodities are reduced in the market starting with the price of fish, I will pursue this in the next two to three weeks,” Lord Mayor Prof. Hakim told the council of ministers but declined to explain how.
Mayor promised to restore the trust that was lost in the municipality in the last three years since its establishment urging collective support from the relevant authorities and institution including the catchment community of Jonglei state living in Bor town.
The governor of Jonglei state Philip Aguer Panyang issued decree No. 10 for the appointment of new Mayor of Bor Municipality Tuesday.
The state decree No. 10/2016 enthrones Prof. Hakim Ajith Bunny as Mayor replacing Eng. Nhial Majak Nhial.
Over 41 people aspirants had applied for the position despite the fact that the position was not advertised by Jonglei state government. 17 people were later shortlisted for panel discussion at South Sudan Hotel on Monday.
Prof. Hakim right man for the right job
In a related development, the governor of Jonglei state H.E. Philip Aguer Panyang Jot has said Prof. Hakim Ajieth Bunny the new Mayor of Bor Municipality is the right constitutional post holder on the right post having found the faculty of Management Sciences at Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology.
According to the local government act the position of the Mayor, Commissioners and that of the Mayor should be contested for through elections.
But the governor of Jonglei state defended his ground saying the appointment of the new Mayor a position contested by over 41 intellectuals was done through presentation of academic qualifications, vision and work experience.
In an exclusive Interview with the Dawn News Paper shortly after the oath taking ceremony, the governor of Jonglei state said Hakilm was rated at 10, Malith Manguak got 6 and Gai Makor got 5 and that was the consideration of experience, the qualification and experience and by consensus of the Panel Hakim became the Mayor.
“Our attribution is unity and people of Jonglei state should be more secure, more prosperous, by this time next year focusing on development.
Prof. Hakim Ajieth and forty others were rated by a Panel of 13 people.
Prof. Hakim is the founder of school of management sciences and technology at the Dr. John Garang Memorial University in Jonglei state established in 2007.
