Press Statement from the Acting SPLM-DC Party Chairman
February 1, 2017 (SSB) — The Acting Chairman and the entire leadership of the Democratic Change Party would like to wish the people of the Republic of South Sudan a Happy Christmas and Joyous Prosperous New Year, 2017. The book of Isaiah 9: 6, broke the tidings of great joy when it said: “for to us a child is born, to us a child is given and governments will be on his shoulders, and he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Ever Lasting Father, Prince of Peace,” Amen.
On this auspicious occasion of the birth of the Prince of Peace, The Democratic Change Party reiterates its consistent position of calling for genuine peace to prevail in our country. In this regard, it appreciates the President’s call for National Dialogue as a step in the right direction with the hope to bring everlasting peace and stability to the people of South Sudan.
Our people have suffered a great deal, they want their torn social fabric fixed, they want to be reconciled with one another, different communities at the grass root need to be reached and brought together through reconciliation so that they stay together as they used to be,
For the National Dialogue to achieve its desired objectives, the Democratic Change Party would like it to encompass all sections of our people all over the country and in the Diaspora, especially those carrying arms. Also the international community should facilitate this dialogue and support it morally and financially.
The government should establish contacts with the armed groups without leaving any of them out of representation, and the government to provide sufficient guarantees for their security.
Once more, may the festive season bring a lasting peace to our war torn country.
Mark Atem Awol,
Acting Chairman, Democratic Change Party
