January 26, 2018 (SSB) — The Government of the Republic of South Sudan today in 26 Jan. 2018 handed over a protest note to the American Embassy in Juba on the undue inflammatory and defamatory remarks made by the US permanent representative to the UN Amb. Nikki Haley, when addressing the UN Security Council on 24 Jan. 2018.

Nikki said: “The Government of South Sudan is increasingly proving itself to be an unfit partner for this council and any country seeking peace and security for the people of South Sudan”

The protest Note was delivered to the US charge DE Affairs in Juba by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Amb. Baak Valentino.

Undersecretary Valentino said in a press briefing shortly after delivering the protest Note that Ambassador Nikki Halley’s remarks on the situation in South Sudan that included a derogatory assertion do not serve well the good relations which the people and the government of South Sudan wish to exist between the two people and governments.

Undersecretary Valentino added, the government of the Republic of South Sudan would like to register its concern and protest in the strongest terms against the recent unjustified remarks made by Ambassador Nikki Haley.

He further said the Government has endeavored to promote diplomatic dialogue with the government of the United States and welcomes any advice on bilateral issues.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation requests the Embassy of US in Juba to convey this protest to the government of the United States of America at the earliest convenience.
