Yakani of CEPO

March 18, 2018 (SSB) — Ethiopia has urged South Sudanese stakeholders to support the regional efforts to end the bloody violence conflict which forced over 4 million people to flee their homes. As the IGAD-mediated High-Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF) on South Sudan is expected to resume during the upcoming days Ethiopia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hirut Zemene Friday discussed the process with members of the political operation.

“The State Minister underlined that Ethiopia supports the ongoing National Dialogue Forum, and further called upon the delegation to do all they can to support the IGAD-led South Sudan’s peace process,” reads a statement released by the foreign ministry after the meeting. Community Empowerment for Progress Organization welcomes Ethiopia call for the renewal of pledge from our South Sudan conflicting parties to respect the revitalization of the peace process. It is great and encourages.

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO says the Ethiopia call for the renewal of pledge is timely. Ethiopia is a key influential member of IGAD, its plays instrumental role in bringing change either be positive or negative. Ethiopia needs to be proactive as chair of IGAD now for making peace happened in South Sudan

It is essential for IGAD strategy for driving the HLRF to be inclusive in embracing its member states participation. Secondly, IGAD strategy should be helping HLRF process to be focusing on conflict resolution and conflict transformation. IGAD should strengthen its outreach to South Sudanese on every development around HLRF. Mr. Yakani stressed

Finally, CEPO calls upon AU leadership at both Head of States Assembly and Commission to effectively manage the interest of some AU member states interest in South Sudan. The sense of some AU member states being viewed as spoilers is timely increasing.

“The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) is a non-profit, civil society, South Sudanese organization, registered by the Ministry of Justice on 17th November 2010. The organization was initially formed in Khartoum in 1999 and consisted of mostly University students, but its scope broadened after it was established in Juba, Southern Sudan as a separate entity. Presently, CEPO is engaged in the areas of Peace and conflict mitigation, human rights, rule of law, livelihood, governance and democratic transformation. MR. EDMUND YAKANI BERIZILIOUS is the Executive Director of CEPO.”
