AnaTABAN: The precarious political position of “Tabanin” in South Sudan

Friday, June 8, 2018 (PW) — When ‘Tabanin’ tried to hijack the people’s movement, the blinkers of greed obstructed them from anticipating a political future where Dr. Riek Machar would be back in the loop such that they could brace themselves for that moment as a precautionary measure.

They had probably banked all their hopes on the complete annihilation of Dr. Riek Machar, mainly through his assassination or physical incapacitation, an outlandish plot that they have been pursuing from 8th July, 2016 but has unfortunately (for them) failed, dismally.

Now that they are sniffing his triumphant return, Taban and his lackeys have not only made imprudent decisions in panic of late, like the hasty merger of their shadow of IO with the regime, but they are the loudest in positing wacky opinions about the fictitious reasons why peace with the inclusion of Dr. Riek Machar is not tenable. What these charlatans must understand is that they have already tied the knot with Salva Kiir and should stick with him until the imminent death of his regime do them apart.

But I also understand their fears. More than anyone else, ‘Tabanin’ know that the regime of Salva Kiir could only thrive through anarchy and won’t last long if peace comes back because it will be voted out of power in a landslide by the masses.

Secondly, by virtue of merging their duplicate IO with Salva Kiir, they have relinquished their obnoxious status of a big fish in a shallow pond that was enjoying the monopoly swallowing toads to that of a big fish in a deep and harsh ocean characterised by ‘the survival for the fittest’ mantra.

In essence, Tabanin have unwittingly dismantled their fraudulent and short queue to the national cake and foolishly joined the long line of sycophants swarming behind Salva Kiir; this doubtlessly implies that Tabanin will definitely be relegated to the tail of the long queue and all that they are bound to siphon from the national cake, this time round, will be nothing but crumps and leftovers from Salva Kiir and his more preferred sycophants.

All that said, I would like to advise the old comrades that you’ve already made your bed, so must you lie on it.
