CEPO Press Release on President Kiir and Riek Machar Meeting in Addis

Monday, June 18, 2018 (PW) — President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar leader of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement /Army- In- Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) are expected to meet face-to-face in Ethiopia –Addis Ababa on 2oth June 2018.
The meeting is aiming at sorting out their political difference and finding proposals for making the searching for peace under IGAD-led High level revitalization Forum (HLRF) successful.
HLRF was a strategy adopted by IGAD for revitalizing the signed Peace “Agreement on the Resolution of conflict in South Sudan–ARCSS” in 2015. The revitalization of ARCSS is mainly focusing on chapter 1 on Governance and chapter 2 on security arrangement since December 2017.
Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) is pleased to see the acceptance for the meeting.
It is encouraging and raising hope for peace and stability.
It is a time to demonstrate leadership and responsibility for ensuring South Sudanese have chance to enjoy peace and stability for their human growth and development.
CEPO is urging the President Salva Kiir and Dr. Riek Machar to really making compromises for making peace to prevail through the IGAD-led ARCSS revitalization process.
Offering practical options for resolving the outstanding issues for revitalizing ARCSS chapter 1 and 2 is essential.
Further, engaging with all other political actors in the country for reaching a clear accepted inclusive political framework for transforming the country from violence to peace will be remarkable.
Beyond making practical options for resolving the outstanding issues of ARCSS chapter 1 and 2 revitalization, CEPO is urging your honorable leadership to during the meeting to raise the following decisions as below:
a) Agree to stop the on-going violation of cessation of hostilities agreement signed in December, 2017
b) Agree to easy humanitarian access including humanitarian staff and property safety and protection
c) Provide clear and straight forward directives for the delegations to making next phase of the IGAD-led HLRF successful
d) Accept the former Kenyan Prime Minister initiative for handshake as a long term national political reconciliation engagement
e) Agree to reconciles as leaders for making the nation enjoy peace and stability from violence
f) Making join public briefing as a gesture of opening new page for moving the country away from violence to peace.
The meeting should be taken as a great chance of remembering the struggle for the independence of our people from the long term marginalization and oppression by the enemies of South Sudanese growth and development.
Political difference is a part of human society but the challenge is how to handle the political difference professionally and non-violently without creating any harm on the lives and properties of the citizens.
Finally, with your various historical contributions and efforts for liberating South Sudan from marginalization and oppression, kindly make peace and stability to prevail as a reward and gift to the blood and lives of the million of South Sudanese who died in struggle for liberating the country.
