Governor Mangar Buong: I Salute Lt. Gen. Chagai Atem Biar (99), Heroes Never Die
CONDOLENCE ON THE UNTIMELY DEATH OF GEN. CHAGAI ATEM BIAR (99).
On 27th of July, 2019, We learned with deep sorrow the untimely passing on of the revolutionary General and a great Freedom Fighter Gen. Chagai Atem Biar ( 99 Code-named) which is a big loss to his family, relatives, friends and the whole Country, Republic of South Sudan that he hardly fought for till the Dawn of independence.
Historically, He was one of the Generals I know his bravery, courage & zeal in the liberation struggle remain remarkable in the history. We were trained in Timsa Battalion and graduated at the rank of Captain and later on assigned as a commander of 2nd Company Timsa Battalion. I moved with him under the command of Maj. Arok Thon Arok; our first mission was to capture Pibor Town, before we could arrive at Pibor, commander of 1st Company Capt. Chol Angui was called to reinforce Tiger Battalion at Pachalla under command of Cdr Salva Kiir Mayardit and Gen. Chagai Atem (99) remained to lead the first attack to Pibor and captured it on 26th/06/1984. It is also remembered that his colleagues, Capt. Manyang Kiir, Capt. Akim Aluong and Capt. Akobo Mayen perished in different battles. It is also a Public knowledge that Gen. Chagai Atem played a great role in recruitment of Koriom Division.
However, historical records of Gen. Chagai Atem will remain in our memory. Therefore, I am urging my colleagues and Youth to take pens to record backgrounds of our heroes and heroines who zealously fought for this hard-earned Country.
I salute Gen. Chagai Atem Biar (99), Heroes never die. His legacy will live on inspiring masses.
