Friday, September 23, 2022 (PW) — Hon. Dier Tong Ngor, the newly appointed Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (RTGONU), was caught red-handed in a serious financial scandal and corruption less than two months after his appointment as the Minister. This morning, the heads of security institutions stormed the Ministry of Finance to investigate the Minister about the alleged scandal of $15 million dollars remitted to the National Bank of the Republic of Uganda.
Hon. Dier Tong Ngor is the first sitting Minister of Finance to be charged with open corruption and the financial scandal a few days after his appointment. Those who have known him since time immemorial in Khartoum say that it is normal business for Mr. Dier Tong Ngor to do away with public resources and dodge accountability.
Many South Sudanese officials face fraud charges, but they are left unpunished on several accusations labelled against them due to a lack of accountability and transparency in such public matters. However, the detention of a sitting Minister of Finance, Hon. Dier Tong Ngor, this evening, came as a surprise, well placed and this is the only way President Salva Kiir Mayardit should bring to an end the chronic blackmailing and corruption in the country.
According to what I see under the water, Hon. Dier Tong Ngor will be the first sitting Minister who served for only 50 days and was relieved from his duties and taken to court straight away. Those who crucified Hon. Agak Acuil Lual on concocted falsehoods will regret their mistakes. Thank you, Hon. Agak Achuil Lual for your patriotism and nationalism to the people of South Sudan.
You were a saviour, redeemer, and eye-opener to the government and people of South Sudan. Our support for you does not go in vain. “Menh raandit acöl menh raandit wen Acuil Lual”.
Hon. Dier Tong Ngor is accused of graft in connection with financial scandals confirmed in the capital, Kampala. The transfer of $15 million and $20 million was caught in his private account in Juba. Such a deliberate scam and fraud is a total disgrace to the nation.
This evening, I heard from a reliable source in Blue House that Finance Minister Hon. Dier Tong was arrested on Tuesday on charges of fraud and corruption, the country’s criminal investigation (CIC) chief announced. He disclosed that the investigation committee will include the NSS Economic division, MI, and CID departments.
“This kind of national robbery, crime, and irresponsibility enslaves us with unnecessary debt and pathetic economic problems for many years now, since the crisis erupted in 2013 and 2016 respectively. I am of the opinion that President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit should waive the immunity of the Minister, detain him, and allow the investigation committee to continue with the investigation process.
Beny Akol Koor and other security services should double their efforts and work harder to clean up their backs here. This is a total disaster for the country.
