I have noticed that 16th May is not celebrated as we do celebrate our Independence Day, but if I may ask which day that led us to the independent of this nation? In my view 16th May is the liberation day because it was the time SPLA/M started the struggle that lead us to 9th July.

This is the day we need to celebrate wherever we are to remember the father of our nation Dr. John Garang and other heroes and heroines that left us in a fresh air that we are in today and we should once again say THANK YOU for this bright future they left for us, we shall enjoy this world while remembering that it was their sacrifices that make us what we are today, they did not join the bush to become rich but instead for us to become rich.

Without 16th May then 9th July or South Sudan wouldn’t have come to be today, we are the descendants of this day, the day that the rebellion started, the day that tells us that we are competent to govern ourselves, the day that tells us oppression is evil, the day that tells us everyone human being is equal regardless of race, gender, colour, social, economical or political background etc. Without this day there would have been no CPA.

May 16th is the day that remind us of the fruit of nationhood, therefore, the backbone and the root of this nation is the 16th May and this day need to be recognise nationwide, it is the day that give us the sense of nationality, state recognition, our Identity, sense of belonging, self-determination, right to vote and be voted for, it is the day we gained happiness, the day we hope for the better future, it was the day we shamed those who disregarded and ignored our strength to succeed, the day we started nurturing for the strength of our future and the day that we gain pride of becoming a nation.

However, currently this day (16th May) has been neglected it is only being celebrated by individuals but not everyone, where are the rest? what do they do?, we need to cheer this day wherever you are whether old or young, because we are the products of SPLA/M and we need to unite once again for this day to commemorate and give special thank and appreciate to heroes and heroines who gave their life for the reason for us to be named as a nation like any other nations.

Let’s embrace unity for better South Sudan the past , the present and the future shall we remained South Sudanese.

SPLA/M OYEEEEEEEE, LONG LIVE SPLA/M, LONG LIVE PEOPLE OF SOUTH SUDAN, LONG LIVE UNITY AND PEACE OF SOUTH SUDAN, LONG LIVE SOUTH SUDAN
