Government calls for active participation of civil society organizations

June 13, 2016 (SSB) — The government of Jonglei state has called for active participation of civil society organizations in nation building and implementation of Agreement on the Resolution of conflict in South Sudan.

Gen. Peter Wal Athiu Madol, Jonglei state deputy governor made the remarks while addressing state intellectuals on the demarcation of borders for Bor Municipality on Saturday South Sudan Hotel in Bor.

“This country cannot move forward without active participation of civil society organization. I call upon the civil society organizations in South Sudan and Jonglei state in particular to play their role of nation building,” Gen Wal Athiu told the gathering.

There are minimal threats of journalist in Jonglei state compare to that of Juba the capital of Jonglei state. Except last year when two journalists were interrogated for various reasons by the criminal investigation department (CID)

Last month, the governor of Jonglei state H.E. Philip Aguer Panyang Jot welcome objective criticism from the various media outlets operating in South Sudan and around the world while hosting a special program organized by Pathuyith community and Jonglei Arts and Music Association to celebrate the re-appointment of Kuol Manyang Juuk as South Sudan defense ministers at South Sudan Hotel in Bor on Saturday.

“I love the media to criticize our government to bring services, improve roads, schools, hospitals and agricultural sector but criticism does not carry weight if you do it from 6 am to 6pm,” Col. Philip Aguer told the gathering.

The governor describes the problem of Africa and South Sudan in particular as youth unemployment and attributed it causes as subjective criticism, rebellions and unrests. But he welcomes objective criticism something he described as giving leaders opportunities to think, decide and implement developmental activities.

Many civil society organizations in Jonglei state have vanished, reasons not known. Most of the community based organizations are also not participating actively.
