"We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing" By Konstantin Josef Jireček, a Czech historian, diplomat and slavist.

If your subordinate’s belly is protruding, don’t panic, read the message below

Friday, May 3, 2019 (PW) — In Africa, if you want to obtain money by deception from a leader, write a monograph of more than ten pages and put the contents of the deal in page 6 of 11 or 12 depending on number of pages and give it to him not her because ladies competition with men on everything has made them exploit the possibility of a mass readership. Don’t try women, though you are a practised liar.

After you have written it, give it to the target leader. He’ll read the first two pages and the last two pages and ask the bearer of what he might be in need of, instead of going through a cluttered piece with jargons. As the bearer of the letter, just say, “for medication Sir”. The Leader will refer you back to his Private Secretary (PS) or Office Manager (OM).

These secretaries, the PS and the OM will not miss to find the figure in your letter because they will calculate the percentage of their kickbacks out of it. Even those dullards in mathematics will try their level best to deal with you appropriately.

If you requested a scads of money, let say, one hundred thousand dollars from the leader, hah, luckiness, the PS and the OM will speed up the process because each of them will come away with ten thousand dollars as their twenty percent of the amount. Don’t let your legs and mind tired because you haven’t yet reached the finance people, these are just office runners.

In the office of finance, you will be told of impossibilities such as, the minister and DG are travelling to London tomorrow and the central Bank will run out of cash soonest whereas the Undersecretary from Ministry of Labour & Public Service will issue out a holiday circular tomorrow. All these are intended to persuade you to pay another twenty percent.

What is your take from these sets of possibilities? Agree verbally, on the promise to pay the kickbacks or do you think that the remaining sixty thousand dollars is the same as uprooting groundnuts from your uncle’s wife garden?

It’s arguable that the bearer of the letter will not refuse to comply. When this recurred for a good number of years, the terrible twosome in the leader office get rich quickly than their boss.

If you meet such people, don’t anxiously scan them on where do they get money from when their salaries is equivalent to two days’ lunch? This’s what they do in order to come back from the dead and this’s how several high-ranking officials in Africa were named in the scandal, accused of fraud and double-dealing.

Moral of the story: Reading can preclude other underhanded tactics.
