rumors

Gossip and Rumor-mongering among South Sudanese

September 6, 2016 (SSB) — Propaganda is information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote or publicize a particular political cause or point of view. The aim of propaganda is to fool or confuse the enemy while boosting the moral and spirit of those on the other end of the conflict. It shouldn’t fool everybody!

For propaganda to be effective, it must be very specific, well timed, objective and cleverly articulated. Otherwise that same propaganda can be picked by the enemy and used it as its own, maximally to your detriment. In other words what you carelessly plan and execute as your propaganda becomes another lethal injection to you!

Very thin demarcation exists between propaganda, rumour, lie, gossip and hearsay. It is in this connections and interlinkages of the word propaganda that most South Sudanese fool themselves and appear like clueless people. Propaganda is a sort of war of words and it is practiced conventionally.it requires craftiness and wit of exaggeration.

Kongor District

Old Map (1988) of New Jonglei state

May 10, 2016 (SSB)  —-  The wise often say silence is golden and that agitation or noise doesn’t provide a positive outcome. Well this is not to mean that there are no genuine complains. The way things are moving and developing in the new Jonglei State needs to be met with noise. Necessary and golden noise. The creation of 28 States by the president was to move services (if there are) closer to the masses. It is in this respect that I am airing out my displeasure with the mode or formula that our Governor Philip Aguer used to create new counties in the now former Twi East.

It is clearly obvious the governor was using the 2008 national and household census results to create more counties in the whole of Jonglei. My question at this junction to the governor is why did Kongor payam miss out among the new counties in Twi?

new cabinet of TGoNU

new cabinet of TGoNU

April 30, 2016 (SSB)  —–  South Sudan is in wild celebratory mood. The return of the rebel icon, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and his subsequent inauguration as the country’s first vice president has revived hopes. It safely, and may be effectively put to an end the debilitating and decimating civil war that has engulfed this nation for over two years.

Citizens have reasons to celebrate. This war brought untold suffering to the most innocent of all; the aged died a merciless deaths, the children orphaned at a very tender age or even got killed, the sick left at the mercy of death without the doctors to attend to, and horrific accounts of rapes on innocent women including underage girls. The few infrastructure that the government had put up over the last decade have been despicably flattened, especially in the towns of the greater upper Nile. Millions are displaced and made homeless internally and others internationally, these people have been promised a safe return in the trusteeship of the TGoNU. There are surely more than enough reasons to celebrate the end of this war.

April 7, 2016 (SSB)  —  Am in Kenya and Kenyans  are busy about themselves celebrating the acquittal of their number two son Hon. William Arap Somoei Ruto by the international criminal court. It is a case that has taken seven years to lay to rest. Mr. Ruto and his fellow tribesman Mr. Arap Sang, himself a radio journalist were found to have no-case-to -answer by the pre-trial judge’s chambers. The duo were accused of being the powerful under behind and financiers of the 2007 post-election violence. It was the worst kind of violence after the 1992 violence that saw President Daniel ToRotich Arap moi elected to power. It was alleged that president Kibaki stole the 2007, at the expense of Mr. Raila Odinga, the presidential elections through the late Mr. Samuel Kivuitu of the electoral commission.

March 29, 2016 (SSB)  —-  For over two years now the infant nation South Sudan has witnessed a vicious and decimating civil war. It is a war that is increasingly tilting towards tribal feuds and conflicts because of misinformation, disinformation and uninformation. Lives have been lost, people maimed and properties vandalised making it one of the bloodiest conflict in Africa today.

Central to this conflict is the personality of Dr.Riek Machar Teny, a man loved and loathed by many. He has surveyed and established his political niche in the South Sudanese political arena and is arguably the most divisive leader in the country.

marial

Marial Benjamin, minister for international affairs, with Aguer Panyang, SPLA spokesperson

March 27, 2016 (SSB)  —-  It is my unapologetic opinion that Dr. Barnabas Marial, the former South Sudan minister of foreign affairs and international cooperation is the most qualified, most dignified, most humble, most honest and most patriotic citizen of our country. This man has the substance of responsibility, accountability and honour.our country can function exceptionally well if we have leaders who have the country at heart like Dr.Marial. This is a fact that only a hell dweller can dispute!

Dr. Marial is a darling of many young people from across ethnic diversities. He has no ethnically inclined tendencies like our so-called patriotic politicians. He has a mind of natural truth and justice that favours everybody and exclude nobody. However, I am utterly disappointed by the recent political developments in our country. Some chauvinistic and arrogant people are trying to score a political point by painting our beloved and adorable man in dull colours.

red army

The Red Army Foundation, Juba

March 18, 2016 (SSB)  —-  The last quarter of the year 1987 is one of the most emotional and memorable time in the history of our struggle against Arab chauvinism.in this year thousands of unaccompanied children were taken from the areas of greater Bor to Ethiopia, supposedly to be taken to school. These helpless children who were dubbed as teraf, meaning seeds braved unimaginable odds to reach to their destination. They were to become the future to which the adults (fathers) were fighting for.

I remembered vividly when three of my brothers left to join other boys in Pawel for their journey. One of them unfortunately was later killed in Domdolla Ethiopia fighting for Mengistu Haile survival. Others remained in the army until the CPA was signed.

March 16, 2016 (SSB)  —  Twi East County currently has five administrative units or payams. It flag has the portrait of one of the most admirable bird species in Africa, the red-crown crane which is locally known as Arialbeek. This bird not only unites the Twi people it also portrays a lot about their behaviour, interrelations and co-relations. The majestic, upright, calm and adorable qualities of this bird are the same qualities exhibit unceasingly by the inhabitants of this area. Twi people are kind, benevolent, somewhat innocent, keen and above all intelligent exactly like Arialbeek.
