CEPO: Key compromises needed to reach a peace deal at the HLRF

KEY COMPROMISES NEEDED TO REACH A PEACE DEAL AT THE 3RD PHASE OF THE IGAD HIGH LEVEL REVITALIZATION FORUM IN ADDIS ABABA,ETHIOPIA

March 11, 2018 (SSB) — After the conclusion of the second phase of IGAD-led High Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF) from 5th to 16th Feb. 2018 in Addis Ababa –Ethiopia, the chance of reaching peace deal without the conflicting parties of South Sudan making genuine and remarkable compromises on their positions regarding sharing of responsibility under power sharing proposal proposed by IGAD is very low.

The sense of the conflicting political elites thinking about transitional period arrangement as short term arrangement is narrow and much of their thinking is influenced by individual political frictions more than public interest issues.

The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization is strongly advocating for the conflicting political elites to give peace chance for resolving their political differences in peaceful manner where citizens will be at centre of decisions making.

Is joining Arab League an alternative to South Sudan problems or just a political suicide?

March 11, 2018 (SSB) — I was shocked by the news that South Sudan in form of its leaders have decided to applied for Arab league membership. As the young nation many called it so, I believe that building our national welfare should be better than many memberships with nothing to gain. If choice is to be made I will rather prepared Arabs because of our binding principles but not to the extent of compromising our majority interest.

On 9 July 2011 South Sudan became the 54th independent country in Africa and immediately after less than a year, South Sudan became a member to many states as below:

On 14th July 2011, South Sudan was officially admitted to the world leading body.

March 11, 2018 (SSB) — Today, even with increased interactions, our community (Greater Bor) seems to be faltering faster. More weaknesses are emerging even between brothers who have never had any significant quarrel in the past. The elders who were once known for truth telling have at best gone mute. Our adversaries seem to be winning. We speak the unspeakables on social media. No secrecy. We’re no more the people in history. We’re fast becoming, if we’re not there yet, a shadow of our past.
